FDA approves mobile glucose monitor

The FDA has approved the first continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system that sends data directly to a smartphone and does not require a separate receiver according to a release from Dexcom, the device’s creator. The G5 mobile CGM System uses Bluetooth technology and sends “real-time” glucose information directly to an app on iOS-enabled devices. An Android version is expected in early 2016.
